Our Story

Here at Regulr we are a group of thinkers looking to bridge technology and human connection into a new era.

Human-centered design should be at the heart of every new technology. Recently, however, we’ve seen technology reduce and remove the human connection. At Regulr, we focus on using technology in a way that promotes human connection, not hinders it. So, we’re revitalizing brick and mortar with a new industry of data to elevate the user experience when shopping.

 

Meet the Team 

Stephen Dodge

Founder & CEO

  Stephen has expertise spanning networking, virtualization, and storage technologies.

  Stephen brings a unique background of technology, sales, and customer experience as he was a Systems Engineer for 5 years holding a leadership role in designing, supporting, deploying, managing, and servicing the SAN environment for one of the largest financial institutions globally.      Stephen also held a sales and customer experience role at Nordstrom for 5 years where he gained prolific insight and skills by delivering the world-famous Nordstrom experience during his time there as a full-time working student. 

 

  Stephen is known for his never-ending supply of energy and drive to get things done.

Luke Rabin 

Product Lead

   Luke has spent a decade in the earliest stages of tech startups and also cofounded BLDR as a new approach to creating products. 

   An economist turned professional musician/record producer turned entrepreneur and all-round product person, Luke is the go-to man for creative innovation and team leadership. His passion is for doing significant work that improves the lives of others and doing so alongside other passionate individuals in a vibrant community.

  Luke ensures Regulr as a product and service is solving real and difficult problems in an innovative and transparent manner.

Brandon Lewis

Design Lead

    Brandon enjoys bringing people together with various talents to solve problems worth solving. Brandon's experience and passion lie in human-centered design and design thinking to unpack ideas and bring them to life. 

Brandon co-founded BLDR in order to approach startups in a unique manner.

   Brandon sees the value and importance in simplicity and seamless user experience for Regulr users given the sensitivity around a location-aware app and service that facilitates personal data.

Will Middleton

Strategic Adviser

  Will earned his Masters Degree in Data Science from the University of Virginia in 2016. He spent time in the banking industry having originally attended Virginia Tech for a Masters in Accounting & Information Systems. 

   Fusing this new tech centered degree with his banking experience, Will became a blockchain technology and crypto-currency evangelist.  He founded Cloudy Data Systems a local tech startup focusing on public blockchain security.

  Will is excited to see how Regulr can transform the ways in which businesses and consumers interact in person in real-time in-store but also how a new ecosystem can emerge and layer into Regulr, rewarding consumers for their data and time; data as labor and the right to earn and control one's data is a key element to Regulr's long term vision.

Strategic Adviser

   Andy is an expert in blending strategy, teams, and emerging technology to achieve business results. Andy has held leadership roles in both regionals and global organizations, driving strategy, product solutions, partners, services and sales.  

   He has developed hands-on skills in user experience, solutioning, marketing, customer engagement, and branding.

   Andy has execution experience in startups and in international enterprises.

Justin Earley

Fractional General Counsel

  When he’s not closing a deal or helping a business navigate a key contract, Justin can be found talking on porches with his friends in Richmond, writing & speaking on the power of habits, or chasing down one of his four sons.
  Justin is a self-starter, so as a lawyer he doesn’t just think about how to manage risk, he thinks about how to take the right risks. 
  Justin primarily handles M&A, PE acquisitions, venture capital financings, corporate governance and structuring, non-profit issues and commercial contracts. Heis admitted to the Virginia State Bar as well as the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.

Joe Baumgardner

Lead Brand Strategist​​

  Joe is the lead behind building the story, the brand, and the experience for anyone using Regulr. Joe became a Brand Strategist because at the core of any business should be authenticity and empathy.

  Joe believes in the art of seamlessness and simplicity. He likes to keep up with all things e-sports, gaming, VR/AR, publishing, and emerging tech.

  He strongly believes Regulr's platform can create a radically transparent channel that better meets consumers' needs and delivers more value to businesses for the time and money they spend in trying to attract customers and engage them.

Adviser & Behavior Design Strategist

   As the founder of Behavior Delta, a behavior design firm, David workshops and brings consulting to teams that want to Behavior Design effectively & ethically. 

  In 2011, David designed and created the world's first Behavior Design major program while at Stanford University; and has been helping teams implement Behavior Design. David is excited to influence Regulr's platform development through the lense of positively changing and influencing everyday interactions between people; shoppers and business staff behavior when engaging with each other.

Ian Major

Business Strategy & Analytics Lead

  Ian has 5 years of expertise across business, retail, restaurant, finance, analytics, and all facets of leveraging data to make better decisions.

   He embraces a test and learns methodology; driving decisions worth tens of millions of dollars for the most prominent businesses in the world. Ian plans to leverage his skills in Data Analysis, Financial Modeling, and Predictive Analytics to drive a unique data set Regulr will build and turn into real-time actionable decisions that businesses of any size can take to add incremental value to their day to day operations.

Build a user-first & privacy-focused platform

We started with an idea to test the impact of a personalized “Hello” through our app to uncover what it means to customers and brick & mortar staff at various locations. We knew that with the current landscape of e-commerce and social media, that local business had an unfair advantage with a human connection. Their disadvantage, however, is the inability to mirror e-commerce and its ability to perfectly remember every customer when they returned to their website or app and leverage that individual's past actions, personal data, or purchase history to create a customized experience.

2018 Summer

Piloting Regulr’s service

We uncovered that “Hello John” is a core feature that has real impact and benefits; it’s in that moment of recognition and identification of an individual when they walk in the door we are making possible for brick & mortar to personalize the experience to customers in real time. The key to success for this type of experience is inventing a new human-centered tech platform that can connect businesses and users together by transparent and mutually beneficial means.

2018 Fall

What early adopters want Regulr to be

Learning from user feedback, focus groups, surveys, and in person meetings we found we're creating your universal shopping profile that gives power back to you; the customer & user. Giving you the ability to control your data and shopping experiences creates better human interactions in-store and thus provides business staff actionable insights for individuals that want these types of experiences.  With the insight we gathered, we can look forward to 1 seamless loyalty program with personalized offerings, instead of each business trying to sell you each and every time on their rewards program or offerings that are not relevant to you. We built and gave the simplest tool to our business pilot locations and early mobile users, then listened to how you and staff wanted this service to benefit everyone when shopping in-store. 

2018 Winter

How Regulr creates a seamless experience

We found and built upon a new innovative technology that gives Regulr's mobile app location-aware capabilities without tracking you as GPS does; plus keeping your identity private and in entirely in your control. Additionally, we piqued the interest of Stanford University and have partnered with them to research how a personalized greeting & shopping experience can best and positively impact both customers and staff's in-store experience. Understanding at a behavioral level how this simple greeting impacts emotions and the mindset of both parties is giving us great insight into how to build the Regulr platform; one that encourages personalization and tailored offerings beyond the usual passive transaction. From our Beta, our surveys showed that the biggest things people are looking for when supporting and exploring their communities are Loyalty/rewards programs, Accessibility to new experiences, and Hyper-Personalization.

We don't want to live in a world where technology is abused and leads us to a mindless and destructive WALL-E world.
